Depth freediving courses in freshwater lake
Armenia is a beautiful mountainous country that attracts tourists with its nature and historical sights. Mountain peaks and valleys, ancient temples and magnificent Lake Sevan are places that once you’ve seen, will remain in the heart forever.

Lake Sevan, the pearl of Armenia, is the largest lake in the Caucasus. A huge reservoir of the purest fresh water, bordered by mountain ranges, is located at an altitude of 1900 meters above sea level. With its scale, grandeur and delicate colours, Lake Sevan is somewhat reminiscent of Lake Baikal.

The locals call Lake Sevan the sea.

Like the sea, it can be gentle and quiet, but it can be harsh as well due to the height above sea level. However, there are practically no strong storms in Sevan, and in the morning the water surface is always calm. There are no undercurrents here. In the summer months, the surface of the water warms up to 21-22 degrees, and in sunny weather it is very warm and comfortable.

ДFor us, freedivers, Sevan is interesting not only for its beauty, but also for its unique opportunities for apnoea diving: depths of up to 80 meters are available in the immediate vicinity of the coast.

And on the shore there is a modern cozy dive resort

Altitude1900, offering its services to divers and freedivers!

This dive center is where we hold our freediving courses at Lake Sevan.

Site conditions and equipment

In July–August, the mountain sun is already quite strong. The surface water warms up to 19–22°C.
We recommend a 5mm wetsuit, neoprene socks, and gloves (3mm or thicker).

We will have at our disposal a freediving platform, equipped with a counterweight system for deep dives, ensuring a quick ascent in case of any emergency. The platform also serves as a great place to rest, and it’s perfect for warming up between dives.

Rental equipment is included in the course fee (5mm wetsuits, weight belts, weights, fins, socks, and gloves).
However, it’s best to contact the organizers in advance to make sure the equipment that fits you (wetsuits and fins of the right size) is available!
Waist weights are available in unlimited quantities at the dive center.

Cost

Freediving course cost:
  • 250,000 AMD (approximately €575) with early prepayment (at least 45 days before the course starts).

Training is conducted according to SSI standards. SSI Level 1–3 certification is included in the course fee!

We always provide an individual approach to each participant, regardless of experience level. During the course, we help address various goals, such as pressure equalization issues, refining diving techniques and strategies, managing psychological state, and more.

The course fee includes:
  • 6 diving days (morning warm-up, in-water session, lectures and practical exercises on land, daily debriefs)
  • Equipment rental (5mm wetsuit, fins, weight belt with weights, socks, and gloves)

Reviews

I’d like to share one of my favorite sayings: “You are here not to change the world. The world is here to change you.”
This is exactly what came to mind when leaving Armenia after ten healing days at Lake Sevan. From the very first moment, you realize that Lake Sevan, like the water itself, is feminine and has character. And yes, Sevan truly energizes and nourishes. I happened to be there at a remarkable time — in the midst of the capricious mountain spring. The year had been cold, and spring was delayed, so the weather at Sevan treated us to all its colors, even bringing snow.

When we woke up in the morning, we saw the lake’s surface perfectly smooth, surrounded by snow-white mountains. Due to the late spring and melting snow, the water was quite cold (10°C), and visibility was minimal, but that didn’t interfere with my course — on the contrary, it made it very productive. Diving in such conditions is an important experience of accepting everything outside and inside yourself as it is.

This course is one of the most memorable in the treasure chest of my precious travels.
I was so happy to share the joy of these days with the blessed land of Armenia and the magical blue-eyed beauty, Lake Sevan! I embrace it with all my heart and soul — see you soon!
A little extra positivity on the way home — an airport representative started a conversation and joked that there are two types of people leaving Armenia: those who are sad because they don’t want to leave, and those who are happy because they had such a great rest.
Clearly, there are many different impressions of the country, travel, and relaxation here. Words cannot describe it — and perhaps they shouldn’t. It’s better to come yourself, to experience it firsthand, to feel the strength and beauty of these places and the mountain lake in your own heart! Come and gain something truly valuable — a rested self and a heart full of love!
